Your final paper is to be:
– 5 full pages, which means at least 1,500 – 1,750 words; I do accept more of course
– Use one story/short story/novel etc., that you have not yet used in any of your previous Reading Responses
– Have a TITLE, which announces the topic: (Possible Title) A Literary Analysis of the Short Writing “Hands” By Sherwood Anderson
– QUOTE the text analyzed; make sure that you quote sufficiently and appropriately
– Use quotation marks, and the name of the author/piece in parentheses, as it may be impossible to tell what page it came from.
– Submit through Turnitin: NO PAPER will be accepted otherwise
– Have a strong, evident introduction to your thesis
– Have a strong conclusion which opens the discussion further
– Make sure your development is made of arguments which are nicely connected
Additional instructions:
Demonstrate how at least three themes that we have discussed this semester (e.g., individual identity, family relationships, the American Dream, politics and war) are found in the text. As you read the text, you should note ways the author develops such literary elements as character, motif, theme, description, imagery, figurative language, symbol, and setting to create a conflict of human experience and bring it to resolution. You should not focus on plot summary.
