Week 2: I Say Assignment I. [This exercise was exercise 1 on pages 14-15 of They Say, I Say}
Food Stamp
The term “food stamp” tends to make people uncomfortable and judgmental.
They see food stamps recipients as lazy and opportunistic living off other people’s hard earn tax dollars.
However, some food stamp recipients don’t want to keep jobs preferring instead for the government to take care of their family.
On the contrary, many food stamp recipients are hardworking individuals trying to provide a better future for their family.
For the truth is that only a small percentage of the population uses food stamps for long periods of time to provide nourishment for their families.
Perhaps the best reasons are the people themselves trying to expand governmental programs that will allow families to obtain the help they need as well as promoting positive behaviors.
In this essay, then, it will analyze how food stamps recipients are judged by society versus non-food stamps recipients.
