(Personal Reflective Essay)
This task seeks to capture your critical reflections on the lessons learnt from an
experiential learning activity/project which you participated in this semester; with a social
enterprise, an NGO, a charitable organisation or a student club that advocates for social welfare orcommunity service.
Examples of an experiential learning activity in this assessment may include:
- a volunteering experience at a school for refugees or shelter homes.
- participating in an experiential training workshop delivered by an organisation that promotes
social inclusion.
- participating in a fund-raising project for the less privileged community.
In this reflective task, articulate key lessons learnt through your participation in an experientiallearning activity that involves social inclusion initiatives or community service engagement.
Relateyour learning experience to at least two unit learning objectives in this unit.
For this task, although citations are generally not necessary, you will still need to cite appropriatelywhen definitions as used.
Marks will be awarded based on the insights, criticality and internalized learning exhibited in the write-up.
Details of the NGO that I participated:
The organization’s role is to provide training to a selected group of teenagers and young adults diagnosed as ‘persons with learning disabilities’ (PLD’ s). PLDs does not mean that their total being is disabled. Their intellectual capacity maybe limited but they do have other skills and aptitudes which can enable them to perform in the employment field in making them valued employees. The main purpose of this organization is to train these PLD’s with basic job skills to enable them to eventually enter the employment world, on either a full-time or part time basis.
Details of the volunteering that I have done (in 10 weeks):
Facilitated learning for “’persons with learning disabilities” including those with Down’s Syndrome, using Arithmetic Lessons, Grammar Lessons,Drawing and Colouring, and a game to let the participants to understand the role and concepts of money and profit.
