The linkage to the local community is very important for a hospital because it helps connect the community, healthcare providers, and public agencies so that they can improve a patient’s access to chronic and preventive care services. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ, 2014), by creating effective and sustainable links between a local community and a hospital, it improves the health of the people and the community that they live in. Creating a link between a community and hospital also helps coordinate public health, healthcare delivery, and community-based activities, which helps promote healthy behavior.
AHRQ also stated that by creating links between a community and a local hospital, it promotes patient, family, and community involvement in strategic planning and improvement activities. Finally, creating links between a community and a local hospital helps form a relationship and a partnership between the community and the hospital and it helps fill gaps in services that are needed. Also, by having a link between a local hospital and a community, it helps patients get more help in changing their unhealthy behaviors. It also enables health care providers to offer their services to the patients who cannot provide those services themselves. Finally, by having a link between a community and a local hospital, programs that are held in the community get help from the hospital and they connect the patients with the right services.
