What is a Proposal?

THE PROPOSAL IS A POLISHED “BRAINSTORM” OF YOUR IDEAS FOR AN ESSAY. IT’S A STARTING POINT; IT IS WHERE YOU WILL PROPOSE YOUR IDEAS FOR THE ASSIGNED ESSAY PROJECT. EVERY MAJOR ESSAY PROJECT THIS SEMESTER WILL BEGIN WITH A PROPOSAL. I WILL BE RESPONDING TO YOUR PROPOSALS AS SOON AS YOU START POSTING.

As you respond to the following questions, include as much detail as you can.

Questions to respond to for your Project 1 Proposal:

You may draw on YOUR OWN past Discussions as you respond to these questions.

  1. After reviewing our Unit 1 texts and reflecting on your own life, what is your comprehensive and nuanced definition of community? (this will be the “working thesis statement” for your essay)
  2. What course text[s] (at least 1) will you use as evidence to support your definition of community? For each text, include a direct quote and explain HOW this quote supports your definition of community.
  3. Narrate at least one personal example that you will use to support your definition of community. After you describe this personal example, explain HOW it supports your definition of community.
