Research Proposal

1. Introduction

Write an introduction which leads us to your research question.

Give a clear statement of your Research Question at the end of the introduction.

2. Methodology

Write down how you will collect (and interpret) data, in as much detail as possible. This involves thinking about confounding variables, how to control for these, and whether you can actually carry out the data collection in the time we have available. Your complete Methodologyshould be detailed enough to allow a reader to duplicate your study.

You should include a Statement of ethical considerations and how you will address them (ie. How you will make sure participants are safe; how will you get their informed consent?)

Also include a brief Timelinewhich shows the milestones of your project and the week/date they will be achieved.

3. Literature review

Review 10 – 15 articles from peer-reviewed academic journals which relate to your topic. Your Literature Review should comment on:

1. What are the main issues which are thought to be important in relation to your topic? What have other researchers found on the topic?Where does your study fit in the general picture?
2. What are the main assumptions which people make about the topic? What theories are there about it?
3. What methodologies have people used to investigate the topic before? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the different methodologies? Why did you choose the methodology you will use?
