  1. Definition of the Issues

The term deviance is generally used to define the violation of various social rules. It is a form of behavior which breaches the social norms and values of the society (Akers, 2015). Thus deviance is an anti-social kind of behavior. Deviance is a common behavioral problem among young people in the contemporary society. Many youths and adolescents have chosen to deviate from what their societies consider to be normal lifestyles and socially approved values. Parents are finding it difficult to control deviance among their children. One of the most common deviant behaviors among young people is substance abuse. Substance abuse is broadly used to refer to overindulgence in alcohol, drugs, and other addictive substances (Palmer & Humphrey, 2013). Youths and adolescents who abuse these substances are vulnerable to bad health, addiction, substance-related disorders, and among other issues.
