Throughout class discussion of The Child, we’ve noted several themes/ideas/concepts that concern Schulman. Through close reading (gathering evidence and analyzing that evidence), locate an argument about one of these themes/ideas/concepts. This seems very open-ended, and is to a point, but remember to stay grounded in the text.
For example, if you choose “technology,” consider what attitudes Schulman has about technology, what she may be saying about technology and its use/purpose/consequences, and decide whether or not you buy what she’s selling. You may buy parts or only up to a point; you may disagree; you may agree emphatically. Whatever your position, make sure you support that position or thesis with quotes or scenes to develop a compelling argument.
If you have an idea that we haven’t discussed as a class, that’s okay. Run with it as long as you can support it with the text.
Again, we’re not looking for a summary. Use the text to say something instead of repeating what we’ve read.
