Attachment theory and research: Resurrection of the psychodynamic approach to personality.       Shaver, Phillip R.; Mikulincer, Mario Journal of Research in Personality, Vol 39(1), Feb           2005, 22-45.

What is the purpose of the article?

In this article, we conceptualize attachment theory as a contemporary psychodynamic approach, show how this theory has helped to bring psychodynamic psychology back to life, and review empirical evidence from our laboratories that supports many of the psychodynamic hypotheses advanced by Bowlby.

What is the hypothesis of the study? In other words, what claims do the authors make in the article?

They are hoping to show that attachment theory not only adheres to the main propositions of psychodynamic theories, but also provides reliable and valid tools for empirically examining such propositions and producing a solid body of empirical evidence that contributes to a resurrection of the psychodynamic approach to personality.

What variables (factors) are being looked at as an influence on personality?

It seems as if the things that are being compared in this article are attachment theory and how it relates to the pschycodynamic theory.

If these variables or the relationship between these variables have been studied before, what have other studies found? This shows historical significance.

These variables were studied before and initially created by Sigmund Freud in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. His work set the basis for today’s studies and offers people a different perspective into the study of personality.

What type of research design is used in the study?

Qualitative Research due to the historical aspect and it going over and reviewing many previous already conducted studies.

Do you think the research in this article was conducted in an ethical manner? Why or why not?

Seeing that it is just going over previous studies and articles and applying them to answer an overall question I believe that there is no need for concern over ethical standards as long as the things being studied were done in an ethical manner.
