Write an initial post that addresses the following: Texas is currently one of only 7 states that does not have require it′s citizens to file a state income tax return. Write an paper in which you address the following questions: Should the state of Texas adopt a state income tax? Discuss two arguments for and two arguments against instituting a state income tax in Texas. If you were a member of the legislature, would you vote to adopt an income tax? Why or why not? This assignment will be graded in two parts: your initial post (50pts) and your replies (50pts) to other classmate′s post: Part 1: Initial Posts: 1. All initial posts must be written in in Arial font, double spaced, using 12 pt. font size. Your initial post must be 3-4 pages in length. This is a minimum requirement, not a suggested length of your initial response. 3 pages means 3 complete pages of written material from you, not 2 and half pages or 2 pages and one sentence on a 3rd page. 10 points will be deducted for papers that are either too short or too long. 2. Minimal response length will receive a minimal score. Put some thought and effort into this post. You will be required to do some research for this assignment. Make sure your initial post addresses each of the questions posted above. 15 points will be deducted for each question not addressed. 3. Paragraphs should be a minimum of 3 sentences long. They should be no longer than 5-6 sentences. Proofreading and spelling/grammar checking will improve your overall score. Double and triple check your post before you submit your initial post, as you will not be able to edit them afterwards. 4. Within your initial post, you must provide evidence and citations to support your opinions. A minimum of 2 sources are required, but again, this is the minimum required for credit. Wikipedia does not count as a source and will have 15 points deducted from the initial post grade. You must use in-text citations. You may use no more than 1 direct quote and that direct quote is limited to a maximum of 3 sentences. Posts with more than 1 direct quote will lose 15 points off of the overall grade. Posts that do not use in-text citations at all will have 20 points deducted from the overall grade. 5. A works cited section, citing all of your sources in proper MLA format, must be included with your initial post. You must include a works cited even with use of in-text citations. Posts without a works cited page included will have 25 points deducted from the initial post total. 6. Failure to submit an initial post and replies to classmates by the due date assigned will result in a grade of ′0′ for this assignment.No extra time will granted for any reason. Part 2: Replies to classmates posts: 1. As part of this assignment, you must reply to at least 2 other classmates posts. Responses will be graded and are worth half of your overall assignment grade, so you should avoid giving short and simple responses, such as ″I agree″ or ″Good post″, etc. and actually respond in a manner that adds to the discussion of the topic. These types of responses will receive very few points for replies. Put some thought and effort into your responses and contribute to the overall discussion between you and your classmates. 2. Read and reply with your own thoughts to what your classmates are posting. Consult the Discussion Forum Guidelines section of the Getting Started in this Course Module for more details on writing successful initial and responses posts. As with your initial post, put effort and thought into your responses. Don′t be afraid to disagree with your classmates. Express yourself through your words! 3. No points will be given for responses made by a student who does not submit an initial response to the questions asked by the prompt.
