The article states that the African American populations are at high risk of developing obesity due to low participation in physical activity and the neighborhood environment factors. The research method used included a use of data sources acquired from a cross-sectional study to evaluate factors that hinder physical activity and the cultural and social barriers among African American adolescents. The research outcomes indicated that neighborhood disorder and physical activity both contribute to obesity. The study is significant to nursing and patient care because it would enhance implementation of community-based interventions that are effective in assisting nurses to reduce obesity among the African America adolescents population.
