Beyond Good and Evil & King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail

Abstract

According to Nietzsche (Beyond Good and Evil), an aristocratic caste is fundamental to the ennoblement of the human species. This caste must believe that there is an order of rank that differentiates great humans from the commoners, and that they, as being of the highest rank, are the meaning and end goal of their society. Society exists in order to create the few exceptional individuals that are its crowning glory, that justify any sacrifice or hardship endured by that society. “Life is will to power and will to power is exploitation.” (Nietzsche) but in the letter from Birmingham jail Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. holds the view that: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” this paper seeks to show the contribution of Beyond Good and Evil and the letter from Birmingham jail towards the fight for the poor and vulnerable in the society and why MLK approach is the best in ensuring a just society for all.
