Africa authoritarianism to regimes with more competitive and multiparty elections

Most countries in Africa experienced transitions from authoritarianism to regimes with more
competitive and multiparty elections in the early 1990s. What were the key domestic and
international factors that drove these reform processes? What explains why some of these reform
processes resulted in real change toward democracy, while others did not? Provide examples
from lecture and readings to support your arguments and be explicit about how the examples
relate to the arguments you are making.
